Gays and Lesbian Rights

Love doesn't just sit there like a stone, it has to be made like bread, remade all the time, made new.
by Ursula K. Le Guin
I might have written this story but my university has a dorm only for gays and lesbians. Well, actually it is not right. my university has a dorm of which one floor is only for gay and lesbian.
According to what i heard, only gays and lesbians can use the bathroom of that floor. And since there is technically just one bathroom on that floor so that they share one bath room no matter what your sexes are.
What an AMERICAN?!
Did you think that way? Well, it is not actually. Cause my state has relatively liberal toward this issue and my state is the only state that allows gays and lesbians to get married with the 50 states in America.
I go to University of Massachusetts Amherst right now. it is a huge university that has over 20,000 students. If you include faculties and stuff who work for the university, it is going to be huge deal as you can imagine. It's so different, huh? My original university has over 10,000 students and it is one of the biggest universities in Japan. But still, the university here is still much bigger university.
So, it is kinda reasonable that there are many gays and lesbians and we can have a dorm that is only for homosexuals. But it is not the only reason.
Yes, Massachusetts is a very liberal state. Nobody supports Bush family cause he is a democrats. Moreover, he is such a jerk who wants to abolish abortion. He believes very traditional Christian protestant.
What happened in Mass (abbreviation for Massachusetts) is we have a state supreme court case (Goodridge v. Massachusetts) that said it is OK to get married to a same-sex person.
In this case, the Court just said that it is unconstitutional to ban the same-sex marriage. But after this decision, state legislature decided to make a law that allows it. You know, even if the Court allowed same-sex marriage, it doesn't work at all without a procedural statute. In this sense, the state legislature and the Court together, created this law.
Well, do i support this law? Yes, i believe this should be the way it is. i think homosexuals have any fault being homosexuals. they just became so by nature. On the other hand, if we ban them to marry, they do not have lots of rights including their right to succeed their inherent to his/her spouse, right to have the same family name, right to save tax.
Constitutionally, it is a matter if we should ask court or we should decide by legislature. It is generally said that if it is very important for us or it is fundamental issues to us, we should let the Court deal with it. If not, legislature elected by nations decides. This is the way it is in both Japan and the US.
Then, the question is which one should decide this issue?
I think this issue is like the issue of sex discrimination or racial discrimination because they are just homosexuals without doing anything. It is a natural biological issue that we inherently have to deal with.
So, judges should decide this issue. I hope that both in Japan and the US, same-sex marriage become popular. I at the same time hope that everybody be able to walk as they show that they are homosexuals just like a heterosexual couples.
thanks for reading.
